Various units of the Russian army, according to primary sources of The Gulag Digest, have received memos instructing the use of swastika symbols on military vehicles in order to popularize their image among the western far-right. This would be the first challenge to the “Z” Russian war symbol.
“The Z, didn’t really click as nicely as we thought it would… and with the elections in many western countries underway, time has come to show potential western Putinities that we are worth their sympathy. The goal would be to push for a Russia-friendly Europe and US” – a spokesperson of a Russian MoD-affiliated Telegram channel told us.
“It may come across as crazy, but remember that labeling the Ukrainians as Nazis, didn’t help us. In fact, it might have actually harmed our narrative. Several lawmakers are pushing for a 180 turn on this one, to completely reverse this strategy and see what happens”.
It is unclear whether the memos are official or just a consideration of a future strategy. Time will tell if any elements of this strategy will be implemented and if they do so, whether they will bring more support for Putin in the west.
