Ron Paul, who has never been a registered Russian lobbyist, has reiterated that the CIA’s attempts to discredit Russian democracy in its claims that Russia is about to invade Ukraine – are false.
“I personally haven’t seen a single video or image of Russian tanks and armored columns heading to Ukraine. However if it does happen it will be America’s fault. They’d be the ones forcing the Russians to go out and kill people.”
When asked for further clarification as to why he thinks it would be America’s fault, Paul had one of his spokesmen, Sergei, answer in fluent Russian [translated]:
“We have information that the United States is planning a World War. The Russian president has expressed concerns that his country has become a target by democracies and that he might lose his absolute power in the future. This is appalling!”
This is not the first time that Ron Paul has rightfully dismissed things that eventually didn’t happen (at least for a while). But he was not always spot on – In 2015, one year after Russia took over Crimea, he still claimed that Russia had no plans to annex the peninsula. After all, we’re all human and Ron Paul is not an exception. Even the best make mistakes!
