A Moscow mother of conjoined twins who have been reported as killed in action in Ukraine in April, has sued the government for giving her only the singular package of compensation. In this case, the category of the compensation fell to just one bag of potatoes, a fairly just amount for a lower ranking soldier who was newly mobilized. Any medium-ranked loss as such would have been a new white Lada.
However, the Moscow mother, who wishes to remain anonymous, sued the government as she sent her twins to the front, who were conjoined, so not a single person. However, the Russian military court briefly responded with the message that the two were inseparable, and hence only one bag of potatoes would be the right amount of compensation. The matter is being reviewed by Russia’s constitutional court, and some of Russia’s most prominent human rights lawyers and economists are on her case. A hearing has been appointed for this issue, on the 13th of May.
It is unlikely that she will get the decision changed to two bags of potatoes, however, the case symbolizes the strong value of health, humanity and human rights in Russia.
