Yandex Taxi has had hundreds of complaints from users in Moscow due to wrong pick up and drop off locations. The reason was that there are 38 different streets named after Stalin in Moscow, mostly centered around the center and the embassy district.
A Yandex spokesperson told the Gulag Digest that they still want to honor Russian history, but need an alternative method to conduct business:
“We know it’s important to honor Russian heroes. But perhaps, 38 different Stalin streets in central Moscow might be a bit too much. St. Petersburg has 24, so it is a lot easier there. Novosibirsk is at 15 and Ekaterinburg is at 14. What I would propose is to number the streets. So, Stalin first street, Stalin second street, and so on. I’ve reached out to mayor Sobyanin to consider this proposal”
Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin is yet to react to the proposal.
