Russia’s main nuclear disarmament movement, also known as “Ядерный удар” (meaning “Nuclear Strike”) stated that it does not support the disarmament of Russian nuclear weapons. In fact, its leader Andrei Smirnov, emphasized that he supports the use of nuclear weapons by president Putin if need be. The disarmament part of the campaign is focused on disarming other countries, in particular the United States.
The movement has been accused of hypocrisy, since many believe that in order for collective nuclear disarmament to work, everyone has to do it, including Russia and China. However, this view is outdated. It is in the best interests of the world that only Russia and China are able to retain their nuclear arsenals, claims Smirnov.
“If Russia, China and North Korea are the only countries with Nuclear Weapons, then we can put an end to the New World Order. This will be true nuclear disarmament – that of the United States, UK, France and others. How can there be peace if Russia doesn’t dominate its region and China doesn’t dominate the world? What kind of peace is that? Certainly, the only kind of disarmament movement there should be is one that only disarms America”
Smirnov declined to comment directly if he would support a nuclear strike, but remained silent with a smile on his face.
