Moscow, Russia – In an astonishing display of ignorance, an anonymous guide titled “How to Avoid Migrant Areas in Moscow” has been circulating, earning widespread condemnation and ridicule. Critics are slamming the guide as an epitome of xenophobic absurdity in an increasingly multicultural world.

The Guide That Misses the Point

The so-called guide offers a bizarre roadmap for those who wish to navigate Moscow while meticulously avoiding its vibrant and diverse communities, including areas home to Russians of Tajik, Kyrgyz, Uzbek, Tatar, Turkmen, Chechen, Ingush, Dagestani, Georgian, Armenian, Azeri, Chinese, Turkish, Mongolian, Bashkir, Kalmyk, Buryat, Yakut, Sub-Saharan African, Somalian and Korean descent.

Critics have rightly pointed out the glaring irony: to avoid migrants in a city like Moscow is to strip oneself of the rich cultural tapestry that defines it. “It’s like visiting Paris and avoiding croissants,” quipped one commentator.

    Stereotypes and Stupidity

Among its many ridiculous suggestions, the guide advises against visiting markets, restaurants, and cultural festivals that might expose one to “foreign influences.” The message is clear: better to live in a monotonous echo chamber than to risk the horrors of new experiences.

“By avoiding these areas, you’re not only missing out on incredible food, art, and traditions, but you’re also reinforcing harmful stereotypes and isolating yourself from reality,” said Yelena Ivanov, a sociologist at Moscow State University. “It’s a guide to remaining ignorant.”

    Public Outcry

The backlash has been swift and severe. Social media is abuzz with mockery and condemnation. Hashtags like #EmbraceDiversity and #MoscowForAll are trending, with users sharing their favorite experiences in the very neighborhoods the guide warns against.

“Whoever wrote this guide clearly has no idea what they’re missing,” tweeted one user. “The best dumplings I’ve ever had were in one of these so-called ‘migrant areas.’ Get out there and live a little!”

    Celebrating Multicultural Moscow

In response to the guide, community leaders and activists are calling for a celebration of Moscow’s diversity. Events showcasing the city’s multicultural heritage are being planned, aiming to bring people together rather than drive them apart.

“Let’s turn this negative into a positive,” said Maria Petrova, a local activist. “We should celebrate our city’s diversity, learn from each other, and grow together. That’s what makes Moscow truly special.”

While the xenophobic guide attempts to divide, it has inadvertently united the city in its condemnation of such narrow-mindedness. Moscow thrives on its diversity, and attempts to undermine this only serve to highlight the ignorance of those who fail to see the beauty in our differences. As the city moves forward, it’s clear that the only thing worth avoiding is the toxic mindset that seeks to segregate rather than celebrate.
